Hot Handset

Ghost Rider.
Sure, he may be a superhero, but he suffers the same technology issues as normal people.

Overheating handsets is nothing new. Older mobiles used to do it a lot. And the new smartphones of today have their own overheating problems too.
And there are many possible reasons why mobile phones / smartphones will overheat.
With all of the technology and components packed into these modern marvels, you have to expect some output to be undesirable.

So what are the reasons they overheat? They are many and varied. Experts & technicians will have a plethora of reason on why these devices may have temperature spikes at times. But I think that this response I found online is the best one ever, when addressing this issue:

Q: Why do cell phones overheat?
A: Because you use them to much.

Simple. ’nuff said.
If you have read this far, then you obviously have nothing better to do.
So, in that case, I will share something with you that I have just come to realise :
I have a sub-theme of comics developing, which depict Superheroes having issues with modern techology and adjusting to an online life.
Ok, so there are only six of them so far but I am sure there will be more to follow.

To the Batcave

To the Bat Cave, Robin!
Robin?  Robin? Where are you boy wond……  Oh, for f*@ks sake! get off facebook so we can go and fight crime!!
(That is how I imagine a pretty typical Dynamic Duo conversation would go these days.)

There are millions of Batman fans out there on the internet. Many of them will have smart phones, and may be using any number of a vast array of  geo-location applications.
And I will bet each of them thought they were really cool, ironic and unique when they added “The Bat Cave” as a spot on the map, so they could check-in to it.

Go to pretty much any city, in any geo-location site (such as Gowalla, foursquare or Facebook Places) and you will find multiple entries for “Bat Cave”.
The same holds true for the “Fortress of Solitude”, Hogwarts and Castle Greyskull.

But I could not find anything for the Arrowcave (Green Arrow) or Sanctum Sanctorum (Dr Strange)

Geo-location applications have really taken off in the recent past, but at present they seem to suffer from a major problem.
That problem is letting the general public add your data for you.
When you do that it is a great way to get free data-entry done, but you never know what you will get.
You will need to be happy to have incorrect data, duplicate entries and millions of joke entries.

Although, if I were the kind of person with a secret lair, then right now would be a great time to add it multiple times on geo-location sites. Add it in so many different  locations that the bad-guys will have no idea which is the real location.
Oh, yeah – and I probably would not add in the actual location, just to be on the safe side.

Touch Screen Haters Club

The future of computing is touch screen technology.

It is a fantastic interface, which offers intuitive navigation, instant interaction and the ability to present experiences in a manner we have never been able to do before.
Soon, everything will have a touch based navigation to it.

This is great news for most of us. Those of us, that is,who have the ability togenerate the touch pressure & bio-electric conduction required to make touchscreens work.
But spare a thought for those who will be unable to use the new technological marvels we are sure to be presented with soon.

The unlucky include:
– aliens who control things just with their minds
– characters with spikes for fingers
– monsters with huge sharp claws
– most hooved animals
– robots with caliper hands
– zombies (but only because they are too dumb)
– dinosaurs

So next time you buy a touch screen device, just think about all these things that won’t be able to enjoy it.

When the iceman calls

When the iceman calls published on 4 Comments on When the iceman calls

Superheroes must be the one of the most feared types of people for tech support staff.

They are magnets for having “computer issues” (as I have already covered previously here) and want everything sorted out right away. They are always complaining that the problem has to be fixed immediately, as it is a “matter of life or death”, or “the fate of the world depends on it”, or “a giant robot is about to crush my skull”.

Well boo fricken hoo! Seriously! Either they are too dumb or overpowered to use their computers in the first place, or they are super geniuses always tweaking settings and adding unauthorised custom software. (Yeah, I’m looking at you batman……)

Artists note :
This joke seems so obvious, yet when I researched it*, I was surprised to find this had not been done yet. The closest I could find was this comic, so I thought I had better give it some props.
If you find another version of this gag somewhere, especially with the iceman in it, please add a link in the comments. I would love to see it.

*Ok, I know what you are thinking – yes, I do research things on the google machine. I am all teknological and stuff.
